Rain amid The Fire

A short story of an event that happened and as much as it can be felt it truly never is . I've tried to convey my thoughts on the matter , I drive past the point almost daily and it's a constant reminder

Loves Rain amid the Fire

She cradled the small infant , her miracle in life , and gazed into eyes full of curiosity .What will you be she whispered , sure that he would leave his mark in this world .

Hold me the boy yelled as he started to peddle the bike , The father ran beside him , hand on his shoulder as they went down the street .You got it he said , and ever so carefully he let go and allowed him to peddle on his own .He had shown him as much as he could and now it was the boys turn to practice it .

She watched him as he ran across the field , he was the lead in the team and he could sure run fast she thought .Ever proud she snapped pictures of him in motion , more that would decorate the house .And in a moment she captured it as he kicked the ball to score ! Running back to her he yelled ..Did you see that mom ?

The words came again .......You need to stop being so reckless ! Think about what you're doing ! But Dad ! was his response to which he stormed out the door ! But he knew where he was headed , Staring at the door he was compelled to run after him but decided that he would let him cool off before making another attempt

The boy looked everywhere , where did she hide them ? He had been warned but the impulse was to strong , He looked in the usual areas but they were not to be found ? Then at the corner of his eye he spotted them .......Not good enough Mom he whispered as he grabbed the keys .He had been warned but the car was fun and he had friends he was going to meet

She came home from work and the first thing she noticed was her car was gone ! Not again ! She worried so much as he had been into drinking and although to young to go to the bars somehow he managed to find the drink and then he over indulged .They had been trying to intervene but he was strong willed and although they had wanted to take a stronger stance they had so far been kinder in hopes that he would realize that his actions were not good for him

He saw his phone flashing and as he read the message from her telling him he had taken the car again he knew that he would be into the drinking again .How long before you realize the harm you're doing to yourself he questioned , surely you have to see it ? They had hoped he would stop and pursue his life goals more but youth had caught him and he was doing it his way

He opened his eyes , where was he ? then reality took hold , the car , he had been drinking and then of course the speed came into play , and the last thing he recalled was the curve , now seeing he saw that the car was wrapped around the tree , he was trapped , pinched in between the steering wheel and the seat he couldn't move except for his arms .It was way past midnight so no traffic to be seen .He searched and found his phone ...........call dad ! he'll get me out !

The phone rang and he knew it was him , He hadn't slept as always as he waited for his boy .Today it felt different , there was something strange about today .He answered and he heard him talking , slurred words but he understood .Then a sense of urgency as he heard a loud bang .............Dad come !  a cry came quick .......the car is burning and it's hot , Dad help me ! He knew there was nothing he could do , so he talked to him as calmly as he could , told him over and over how much they loved him as the screams got louder and then silence ..........

They both looked into the cradle as he slept ........what will you become they asked ......................

The tree has a memorial to a boy who got his wings far to early in life , cut short by a world in which he belonged but taken ..............
